Compare applicants

Use profiles, reviews, messages and practical details to choose the right person for your job. The sections below explain what to check, what to record in chat and when to slow down before making a decision.

ProHelp connects customers and professionals. It does not guarantee workmanship, verify professional qualifications, process payments, hold escrow or provide payment protection. Phone verification confirms access to a number, not a person’s identity or background.

What matters here

An application is more than its proposed price. Begin with whether the message addresses your actual job: a strong applicant mentions the task, asks a relevant question, or explains comparable work. Generic replies are harder to assess. Check the profile for categories, portfolio examples, completed work and recent reviews. Read what reviewers say about communication and reliability, not only the average rating.

Compare like with like. One applicant may quote labour only while another includes materials, travel, disposal or cleanup. Ask each person to state what their figure covers and whether it is fixed or an estimate. Availability matters too: the best technical fit may not suit a deadline, while an immediate start is not valuable if the approach is unclear.

Use reviews as evidence, not a guarantee. A small number of detailed, relevant reviews can be more informative than many unrelated ones. For specialist or regulated work, ask about the qualifications or insurance the job requires and verify important claims independently. Phone verification only confirms access to a number; it is not a background check.

Recommended process

  1. Shortlist applicants whose messages show they understood the description.
  2. Open each profile and inspect relevant portfolio work, reviews and completed jobs.
  3. Ask the same scope, material, timing and price questions so answers are comparable.
  4. Write down what each proposal includes and excludes.
  5. Choose only after the preferred applicant confirms the final details in chat.

A short written recap is valuable whenever the decision affects scope, timing or money. Include what is and is not included, who supplies materials, the expected date, and any condition that may change the price. Wait for a clear reply from the other person instead of treating silence as agreement.

Mistakes and warning signs

Do not select solely because someone pressures you to decide immediately or offers an unusually low headline figure. Clarify missing costs and milestones first. If two applicants are close, favour the clearer plan and communication rather than inventing certainty from the ranking.

Tell unsuccessful applicants politely once you decide. If the chosen person becomes unavailable before work starts, return to the conversation, confirm that the arrangement is cancelled, and contact another suitable applicant. Never send login codes, banking credentials or identity documents as part of “verification.”

ProHelp’s normal posting, applying, chatting and hiring features are free, and ProHelp takes no commission. Customers and professionals settle directly. If behaviour is abusive, deceptive or unsafe, stop the conversation and use report or block. Contact local emergency or law-enforcement services for immediate danger or suspected crime.

Final check

Before leaving “Compare applicants”, review the conversation from the other person’s perspective. Make sure the current position on applications and complete offers is easy to find and does not depend on an older message that was later changed. Correct dates, amounts or assumptions in one new recap. This gives both sides a practical reference and an opportunity to disagree before travel, work or payment.

Keep only information that is relevant to the arrangement. Save appropriate receipts and job records, but avoid copying private details into unrelated conversations. If the other person asks for something unexpected, ask why it is needed and pause if the explanation does not fit the task. Clear boundaries are more useful than rushing to appear agreeable.

When the app does not show the expected action, first confirm the job status and account, refresh the page, and try again on a stable connection. Repeated taps, duplicate posts or duplicate payments can create more confusion. If the issue persists, describe the screen, job and action accurately when contacting support; never include passwords, verification codes or full banking credentials.
