Mark a job as done

4 min readUpdated August 12, 2026Available in EN · LV · RU

Close a finished job so your list stays current and you can leave a review. The sections below explain what to check, what to record in chat and when to slow down before making a decision.

ProHelp connects customers and professionals. It does not guarantee workmanship, verify professional qualifications, process payments, hold escrow or provide payment protection. Phone verification confirms access to a number, not a person’s identity or background.

What matters here

Marking a job done records that the active hiring process has finished. Use it after the agreed work is complete, you have inspected the result, and any final questions have been discussed. Closing too early can make the status misleading; leaving old work active can confuse your job list and applicants.

Before closing, compare the result with the written scope. Check the parts that matter while the professional is still present and raise specific concerns calmly. Confirm any agreed correction, return visit or incomplete item in chat. “Done” should describe the work status, not pressure you into saying the result was perfect.

Payment is separate from the status control. ProHelp does not collect or release money when you mark a job complete. Settle directly using the method and timing you agreed with the professional, and retain an appropriate receipt. Do not tap a status because someone claims it unlocks payment through ProHelp.

Recommended process

  1. Open the job and review the latest agreement in its conversation.
  2. Inspect the work and confirm that tools, debris and access arrangements are resolved.
  3. Record any correction or remaining item before changing the status.
  4. Use the job action to mark it done and confirm the prompt.
  5. Leave a factual review based on the completed experience.

A short written recap is valuable whenever the decision affects scope, timing or money. Include what is and is not included, who supplies materials, the expected date, and any condition that may change the price. Wait for a clear reply from the other person instead of treating silence as agreement.

Mistakes and warning signs

If the control is unavailable, confirm you are viewing your own active job and refresh the app. A job that is still being checked, cancelled or already closed may present different actions. Avoid recreating the post merely to change its status.

If work stopped before completion, describe what happened rather than marking it successfully done by habit. Communicate with the professional about the remaining scope and direct payment. Report abusive or deceptive behaviour separately; the done status is not a dispute-resolution or refund mechanism.

ProHelp’s normal posting, applying, chatting and hiring features are free, and ProHelp takes no commission. Customers and professionals settle directly. If behaviour is abusive, deceptive or unsafe, stop the conversation and use report or block. Contact local emergency or law-enforcement services for immediate danger or suspected crime.

Final check

Before leaving “Mark a job as done”, review the conversation from the other person’s perspective. Make sure the current position on completion, inspection and remaining items is easy to find and does not depend on an older message that was later changed. Correct dates, amounts or assumptions in one new recap. This gives both sides a practical reference and an opportunity to disagree before travel, work or payment.

Keep only information that is relevant to the arrangement. Save appropriate receipts and job records, but avoid copying private details into unrelated conversations. If the other person asks for something unexpected, ask why it is needed and pause if the explanation does not fit the task. Clear boundaries are more useful than rushing to appear agreeable.

When the app does not show the expected action, first confirm the job status and account, refresh the page, and try again on a stable connection. Repeated taps, duplicate posts or duplicate payments can create more confusion. If the issue persists, describe the screen, job and action accurately when contacting support; never include passwords, verification codes or full banking credentials.
