Write a clear job description

A strong job description helps the right professional understand the task before applying. It does not need polished marketing language or a technical diagnosis. It needs observable facts, a clear desired result, and the constraints that could change the amount of work. The description is the only required field in ProHelp's job form, so it carries most of the listing's meaning.

Start with the outcome

Open with a plain sentence naming the work and broad location: “Assemble two wardrobes in central Riga” is more useful than “Handyman needed.” Then describe the current situation and what finished should mean. If something is broken, explain symptoms: when it started, whether it is constant, and what you already tried.

Do not pretend to know the cause. “The washing machine does not drain and shows an error” lets a technician reason from evidence. “Pump definitely broken” may steer applicants toward the wrong preparation.

Keep private access details out of a public job. Share an exact address, apartment number, entry code, or phone number only with the professional you choose and only when needed.

Include quote-changing details

Depending on the category, useful details include:

  • number, size, measurements, brand, model, material, or age;
  • current condition and visible damage;
  • whether replacement parts or materials are already available;
  • floor, lift, parking, power, water, or site-access constraints;
  • preferred date or deadline and whether it is flexible;
  • whether removal, cleanup, delivery, or disposal is included;
  • photos showing the full area and important close-ups.

For cleaning, describe rooms, approximate area, and special surfaces. For transport, state collection and destination areas, item dimensions, stairs, and loading help. For garden work, explain area, terrain, waste removal, and available tools. The aim is not length for its own sake; each sentence should help an applicant judge fit or prepare a question.

Use readable structure

Write short paragraphs or a compact list inside the description. Put the core job first, then measurements and access, then timing. Spell out unusual abbreviations. If several separate tasks are involved, list them instead of hiding them inside one long sentence.

Mention what you do not know. A phrase such as “Please advise whether the part can be repaired or should be replaced” invites a useful professional response. State whether you want an initial estimate from the listing or expect the final price after an inspection.

The location field is optional. Use an area or city that helps professionals estimate travel without exposing a precise private address. The budget is also optional and acts as guidance rather than a guaranteed price.

Example transformation

A weak description says: “Bathroom job ASAP, send price.” A clearer version says: “Replace a dripping bathroom basin tap in Āgenskalns. The shut-off valves are accessible under the basin. I have not bought a replacement tap, so please say whether your estimate includes one. Weekday evenings or Saturday work best. Photos show the basin and connections.”

The improved version identifies the object, symptom, area, access, materials question, availability, and supporting images. Applicants can still ask questions, but their first response can be more relevant.

Accuracy, safety and review

Job text is checked before normal publication. Avoid spam, copied keyword lists, discriminatory requests, illegal work, threats, sexual content, and contact or payment instructions designed to move strangers immediately away from the platform. Describe a genuine service need. Images should be appropriate and related to that need.

Do not claim that ProHelp guarantees the applicant, result, timing, or price. ProHelp connects users; you and the chosen professional agree the work and payment directly. Phone verification is not a qualification check.

Final check before posting

Read the description as someone seeing the situation for the first time. Can they identify the task, scale, approximate location, desired timing, and main unknowns? Confirm names and measurements, remove private details, and make sure each photo matches the text.

If applications remain vague, answer reasonable questions in chat and update your expectations there. Do not post duplicates merely to add a forgotten fact. When necessary, cancel the old listing and create one accurate replacement, especially if the scope has changed substantially.
